Trembling at God's Word: The Bible's Central Hermeneutical Principle

Listen to God. 'This is the one I esteem: he who is humble and contrite in spirit, and trembles at my word' (Isaiah 66:2). This is the Bible's central hermeneutical principle - to tremble at God's word. By all means study God's word. But always, always check your heart. Are you reading to master God's word or be mastered by it? Does reading God's word make you proud or does it humble you? Do you search the Scripture so you can impress others or do the Scriptures search your heart? Do you tremble as you read?
